2008

Wednesday 11 June

Venue: Poetry International, Rotterdam, Rotterdamse Schouwburg, 8 minutes walk from Rotterdam Central Station.

Programme: Het juiste woord (The Right Word)

Panel discussion: Donald Gardner (Remco Campert) with Hilde Pach, translator of Israeli poet Natan Zach, Adriaan van der Hoeven, translator of Finnish poet Risto Oikarinen. The panel will be chaired by Victor Schiferli, poet and former editor of De Bezige Bij publishers.

The idea is that each of the three translators will read a short paper on one poem by their chosen poet, after which there is time for questions and discussion. While the programme is in Dutch, my paper on Remco Campert’s poem ‘Op de Overtoom’ will be in English.

Entrance: Pay what you think appropriate when you leave. (This is a new idea introduced this year by Poetry International.)

Our regular series of readings featuring Ambit writers at Roxy Beaujolais' The Bountiful Cow pub in Holborn continues, introduced as ever by Ambit Editor Dr Martin Bax.

Donald Gardner is an extraordinary reader of his work and this promises to be an extremely entertaining evening. He is author of the collections How To Get The Most Out of Your Jet Lag (Ye Olde Font Shoppe, 2001), and The Glittering Sea (Hearing Eye, 2006). Donald will be over from Amsterdam for a short time only so don't miss this event!

Suzi Rapoport is an engaging love poet whose work has appeared in Ambit for many years. She is also an artist whose work has been widely exhibited. She is from the UK, spent much of the 1970s living in Hollywood, and has travelled extensively, but now lives in North London.
